JW Broadcasting & News is an Android app designed to spread news and broadcasts pertaining to Jehovah's Witnesses.

The app is not officially affiliated with the Jehovah's Witnesses church. You can allow the broadcasting to both tablets and smartphones. The app comes with the following features:

-You can watch featured videos in HD quality

-You can receive news directly from jw.org

-You can download audio and video directly onto your phone for offline viewing and listening

-You can use the app for live streaming capabilities

-You can listen to dramas, music, and other audio files

The app has a streamlined and intuitive interface that is easy to navigate. The home page lists the different news sites that you can peruse to receive your news and broadcasts. You have the option to select the language you receive your news in. Also available is a Downloads folder and a link to the Watchtower Online Library.

When you open media files in the Library, you'll be presented with their title, the length of the media, and an option to play. There's also a "Play All in This Collection" option if there are several videos or audio recordings in a series. Additionally, you're given the option to download the media in a variety of file formats.

Permissions required by JW Broadcasting

  • ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE: Allows applications to access information about networks.
  • ACCESS_WIFI_STATE: Allows applications to access information about Wi-Fi networks.
  • INTERNET: Allows applications to open network sockets.
  • READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE: Allows an application to read from external storage.
  • RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED: Allows an application to receive the ACTION_BOOT_COMPLETED that is broadcast after the system finishes booting. Though holding this permission does not have any security implications, it can have a negative impact on the user experience by increasing the amount of time it takes the system to start and allowing applications to have themselves running without the user being aware of them. As such, you must explicitly declare your use of this facility to make that visible to the user.
  • VIBRATE: Allows access to the vibrator.
  • WAKE_LOCK: Allows using PowerManager WakeLocks to keep processor from sleeping or screen from dimming.
  • WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE: Allows an application to write to external storage.
  • android.permission.FLASHLIGHT
  • com.google.android.c2dm.permission.RECEIVE
